What Is Photography?

Photography, a way of preserving history, a way of capturing memories?

Photography as Science

Photography as a science is the inner-mechanics and workings of a camera...

In the case of a digital camera such as this Nikon DSLR (Refer Above), a durable image is captured through the means of an image sensor a lens is used in such an operation to focus the desired image onto the image sensor. Science comes into photography through many aspects such as the physical mechanical operation of the cameras internal parts, the ultra-specific shape  of the lens down to the micrometer, also photography as a science can become as deeply intense as quantum physics such as the Law Of Reciprocity.

Photography as Art

Photography as a piece of art is the more common way of referring to photography, as many people take photos to reflect certain emotions and to influence certain emotions within there audience, or even to create a story using no words.

Each and every picture reflects upon it's audience differently as it's only each person's perception of the picture, as there is no specific meaning to any photo due to there being no words, however a picture such as (Above) can say a million words without even containing a letter within the picture. I believe photography is only seen as an art as of each picture can evoke different emotions within it's audience, such as the picture above, some people could view this picture as being "a man who is ignored by society" due to the faded silhouettes of the public in the background however some people could view this picture as being "a smart yet scruffy man, who contributes to society greatly" due to the fact he is reading a book and just chooses to be scruffy and may have a job which is very valuable to the society. The colours contained within a photo can be the most important concept of a photo.

The picture (Left) shows a perfect example of this, a picture with full true colour can tell a completely different story to that of a picture in black and white, however a picture in black and white seems to produce more of a deep emotion, this may be as the subject captured within the picture cannot be pre-judged, and it's almost as if it's been stripped bare and you concentrate more on the message or meaning of the photograph.
